Studying P-Waves to predict earthquakes sounds like a daunting task. These 2 high schoolers showed that it's worth the tremendous effort. Read on for more details.
15 seconds may seem like a very short time for most of us, but 15 seconds of warning before a major earthquake might be enough time to grab one's precious loved ones and run to safety. 15 seconds might be enough time for a surgeon to turn off the laser scalpel and start safety procedures for the patient.
Shari and Josh, both seniors at Waipahu High School, presented to the Rotary Club of West Pearl Harbor their research findings on the possibility of using P-waves to predict earthquakes in Hawaii. The research was directed by Rotarian Barry Hirshorn of the Tsunami Warning Center. The audience was very impressed with the professionalism of these 2 students as they presented their findings.
