Our Club, West Pearl Harbor, hosted a visit by District Governor Laura Steelquist, Past District Governor John Steelquist, and Assistant District Governor Marietta Bustamante, on July 30, 2014.

DG Laura's visit started with a board meeting during which each officer and director briefed her on the status of their respective areas of focus. Then, on to the Club meeting, during which DG Laura talked story about how she came about to join Rotary, as well as the areas of focus for the year 2014-2015. First, we are very close to completely eradicating Polio from the planet Earth. We cannot quit at "being very close", we need to keep going until we finish the job of eradicating this world of this disease. Second, let's involve our families in Rotary. Many members have joined Rotary because they were helping their spouse or other close person in their family with Rotary activities and projects. Third, we need to increase membership. Worldwide, we have been stuck at 1.2 million members for a long time. Let's invite others and encourage them to join and bring the number up to 1.3 million members. Fourth, we need to tell others about the power of Rotary and tell our own stories. Together, we can LIGHT UP ROTARY--"It's better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness."
